Dr. Bill Liu Founder and CEO Royole Corporation
Abstract: Advanced human-machine interface technologies are critical to improve the way people interact with and perceive the world. In this talk, we will briefly introduce the technologies and products developed in Royole Corporation toward such a company mission, including Royole’s flexible displays with a thickness of ~0.01mm and a bending radius of ~1mm, Royole’s flexible sensors and Royole’s foldable 3D virtual mobile theater headsets. The entrepreneurial stories behind the company’s fast growth will also be highlighted.
Bio: Dr. Bill Liu is the Founder and CEO of Royole Corporation, a leading innovator and manufacturer of next-generation human-machine interface technologies and products. Dr. Liu founded Royole with his Stanford friends in 2012 with the mission to improve the way people interact with and perceive the world. Their key technologies include the world’s thinnest (0.01 mm) flexible displays, flexible sensors, and the world’s first foldable 3D virtual mobile theater. Based in Silicon Valley, Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China, the company is led by a team of technologists and professionals from 12 different countries and has filed more than 700 intellectual properties since its inception. Royole achieved a global USD $3 billion valuation in just four years, making it one of the fastest growing tech startups. Royole was also selected as a four-time Honoree of the 2017 CES Innovation Awards, 2016 Annual Tech and Innovation Awards by San Francisco Business Times, the Best of CES 2016 by Thomson Reuters, and the “5 under 5” 2015 Most Innovative Companies in China by Scientific American. Prior to founding Royole, Dr. Liu worked at IBM Corporation in New York from 2009 to 2012. He received a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, California in 2009, and B.S./M.S. degrees with honors in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 2004/2006.
