Abstract: In this presentation, the barriers that must be overcome to bring Augmented Reality HUD to market will be described from both an AR HUD supplier and OEM perspective. In particular, the many HUD design challenges posed by the unique AR HUD requirements will be discussed and solutions will be described. Additionally, the challenges of supporting such a sensor rich AR system that places considerable computational demands of the vehicle electrical architecture will be presented.
Bio: Jamieson Christmas, Ph.D., has recently been appointed as CEO of the Envisics group that specializes in the development and supply of holographic technologies for the automotive market, with particular specialism in augmented reality head up displays. Prior to this appointment Jamieson was EVP at DAQRI with responsibility for the DAQRI Automotive business unit & the DAQRI Holographic research activities.
Jamieson joined to DAQRI in 2016 when they acquired Two Trees Photonics Limited, the dynamic holography company he cofounded. Prior to this, Jamieson held a number of engineering leadership roles with Alps Electric UK Limited, a leading global manufacturer of high-quality electronic components for mobile devices, home electronics, industrial and automotive markets.
Jamieson graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a 1st class honours degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. Later, while researching at Cambridge University for his PhD in holographic displays, he played a substantial role in the day to day operations of the Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics (CAPE), serving on the Technical Strategy Committee and leading one of the technology focus groups.
Jamieson is a world leading expert in the field of holography, the inventor of over 50 granted patents and was the winner of the prestigious SID Ben Sturgeon Award in 2013 for his significant contribution to the field of displays.
