Dr. Millicent K. Ruffin Business Technology Director Corning
ABSTRACT: Materials Science: The Versatility of Glass Dr. Millicent Ruffin will discuss the role of glass in enabling next-generation devices which feature various form factors, increased brightness, and augmented reality.
BIO: Dr. Millicent K. Ruffin is a business technology director for Advanced Glass Innovations in Corning’s Glass Technology Division. In this role, she is responsible for the technology delivery of innovation programs in the portfolio. She is also responsible for the technology strategy that supports the immediate and future needs for new glass businesses.
Over the course of her 16-year career with Corning, Ruffin has lead product development efforts in emerging markets such as mercury capture and remediation, thin film photovoltaics and encapsulation strategies for OLED devices.
In 2014, Ruffin was appointed director of the Corning Advanced Technology Center in Taipei, Taiwan. In that role, she supported the growth of Corning® Gorilla® Glass in Asia for consumer electronics and led the development of the lab’s technical capabilities to meet the evolving needs of businesses and customers in the region.
Ruffin earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Furman University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Michigan. In 2013, she received the Women of Color Outstanding Technical Contributor Award. She has written 32 technical reports, eight invention disclosures and has four patent applications.
