Abstract: Recent development in electronic display technologies allow us to have foldable cellphones like Samsung, Royole and Huawei introduced. Foldable displays that realize foldable cellphones have a quite unique characteristic, flexibility, during those displays under operating. That unique characteristics requires new evaluation methods of electronic displays under mechanical stresses. In order to evaluate that characteristic, IEC, International Electrotechnical Commission, TC, Technical Committee, 110, Electronic Displays developed and are developing International Standards for evaluating those flexible display. Through our talk, we are going to explore those standards for foldable displays.
In addition to that, we would like to introduce our, Yuasa System’s, mechanical endurance testing equipment suitable for foldable displays.
At last, for further development of foldable displays in display industry, we, Yuasa System, recently develop very unique evaluation method called ‘Visualization of mechanical stress of foldable display’ using very unique material. By using this newly developed technologies, we could see where actual mechanical stress occurs during folding motion.
Bio: While he is in Konica Minolta Inc., from 1996 to 2006, he made computer related hardware and software with the local people in the US Silicon Valley. Since 2009, as an international expert of IEC TC 110 Electronic Display Devices, he has been developing and discussing standards for displays. In particular, since 2011, he has served as Assistant Secretary of IEC TC 110 Electronic Display Devices, and has been developing strategies for standardization of display and organization management.
When IEC TC 119 Printed Electronics was established in 2011, he started working as International Expert. From then, he has been discussing the development of standardization related to Printed electronics. In Japan, as a chairperson of the Machine Sub-committee established in JEITA, he is discussing standardization and standard discussions regarding printing devices of Printed electronics including inkjet printing. Also, since 2012, he has been involved in standardization and standardization of how human being interact with electronic displays as an international expert since in the ergonomics of ISO TC159 / SC4/WG2 displays. Since 2018, he has been involved in the international standardization of inkjet technology at the Inkjet Development Center of Yamagata University as Professor of Industry Relations. From April 2018, he started working in Yuasa System Equipment Co., Ltd., as an executive officer, a general manger of R&D division, in charge of technology development and business development utilizing technology standards.
