​Display Long Term Opportunities and Challenges


IHS Markit thinks there may be one new killer application on the horizon, which contains a display and is expected to emerge between 2023-2025. From what IHS Markit anticipates, it is not a TV or a smartphone. It should be something similar to AI (artificial intelligence) or virtual reality (the VR that applied in the daily life rather than just professional life). From 2025 onward, the screen size and area will be the most critical factors of the display industry, but the transformative size and area will be the new core. This means that the display will be and remain part of every person’s life. The long term challenge for the display is no longer the capacity, technology readiness, picture quality, and cost affordability. But more on the innovative form factor, power consumption and user interface.
