The adoption of MiniLED technology has gained significant momentum since 2021 as Samsung and Chinese brands launched LCD TVs with MiniLED backlights. Apple released its 12.9” iPad Pro and 14.2” & 16.2” MacBook Pro, which are all embedded with MiniLED backlights from 2021 and the shipments are very strong.

In October, Meta launched its new VR device, the Quest Pro. It is embedded with a MiniLED backlight to enhance picture quality. The Quest Pro is the first VR device with MiniLED for Meta. MiniLED has been widely adopted in the IT (tablet, notebook and monitor) and TV fields.

The specifications on MiniLED backlights is quite diversified & chaotic (#LEDs, dimming zones, OD) at the initial stage. But it seems the specs are converging. Having affordable costs with reasonable performance becomes the main consideration on design.
