Soeren Steudel

Soeren Steudel is co-founder and CTO at MICLEDI microdisplays BV developing the next generation µLED displays for AR waveguide optics.

He received the M.Sc degree in electrical Engineering from the Dresden, University of Technology in Germany and a PhD degree from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium in 2002 and 2007 respectively. Prior to founding MICLEDI in 2019, he worked as principal member of technical staff at imec on process integration for various applications like AMOLED displays, X-ray imager, 3D stacked logic and DRAM. This work resulted in more than >100 journal and conference contributions and +10 patents.

MicroLED Display Integration on 300mm Advanced CMOS Platform

The ideal AR displays enables a FOV = 150° with retina resolution and a long list of parameters to achieve the perfect perception. In any micro display technology those specs will remain science fiction for the foreseeable future and we will explain why. The closest technology that can achieve those specs are microLED displays. MICLEDI Microdisplays ( is a leading fabless semiconductor design and technology company developing unique, high-performance microLED displays for the Augmented Reality (AR) market. Our technology is based on an innovative combination of III/V materials processing, 3D integration, wafer-level-optics and 300mm Si based processing combined with a proprietary ASIC to provide a self-contained, compact monolithic AR display with high image quality and power efficiency.
