OLED Panel Shipments Rebound in Q3’23 on Y/Y Growth from Smartphones, Monitors and Tablets

As revealed in DSCC’s latest release of the OLED Shipment Report – Flash Edition, OLED panel shipments increased 18% Q/Q and 14% Y/Y in Q3’23 to 205M units (Q2’23 saw a 1% Y/Y increase). The Y/Y growth for several applications is a welcome sign indicating that inventory has started to rebalance for some categories after Y/Y declines in 2022 and in the first half of 2023. In Q3’23, by select OLED applications, OLED smartphones panel shipments increased 12% Q/Q and 25% Y/Y in units and OLED TV panel shipments decreased 14% Q/Q and 40% Y/Y in units. OLED Panel Shipments and Y/Y Growth, Q3’21 – Q3’23
In Q3’23, smartphones remained the largest OLED application with a 75% unit share, down from 79% in Q2’23 as a result of gains from smartwatches and tablets.
For OLED smartphones, Apple had 14% Q/Q overall growth with the iPhone 15 series driving significant volumes along with the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro. Samsung shipments had an 11% Q/Q drop as a result of declines for the S23 series. In the Monthly Flagship Smartphone Tracker, we show panel shipments for the S24 series starting in October.
SDC continues to lead in OLED panel shipments with a 45% share, slightly down from Q2’23, on gains from China Star, LGD and Visionox. For SDC, OLED smartphone units were up 16% Q/Q with significant increases from Apple, Vivo and others. For LGD, OLED smartphones units were down 1% Q/Q with declines for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, but increases for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. For China Star, OLED smartphones were up 33% Q/Q with Xiaomi providing a significant lift.
